What is the solution to poor rental housing conditions in our community?

Certainly, we need the town to enforce and put regulations on the landlords. It's tough, because there's not a lot of money right now. It would start with the town's, and then the landlords' responsibility.

The only solution to any problem in this state are jobs. When you have people sitting home that want to work, it's not a good thing. Put jobs on the table and people won't want to live in them.

Why aren't the landlords fixing them up? They shouldn't be allowed to collect rent on them from people who can't afford to go anywhere else. That's wrong.

The owners should clean it up. Of course they should. It's shameful. They probably have nice houses.

There should be stiffer guidelines. Before someone moves in, they should be inspected. Lots of places in town are in pretty rough shape, for both the interior and the exterior. I've seen a lot of lead paint in some.

Aren't they supposed to be regulated by the state? The state ought to, absolutely. You have to protect the people in rental housing.

I think there should be some kind of inspections. The conditions are absolutely horrible. Either the state or the town should step up.

I think they should have fundraisers and ask people to help. I know a lot of young people who would volunteer to help fix them up.

I would tell the tenants to get the hell out. Take whatever you've got, and get out. Sleep outside if you have to.

Nobody pays rent, so it's hard to keep them fixed.

Somebody would have to fix them up. Condemn them or have the town fix them up.
