Why save the Gingerbread House?

Allie Conant Photo:

I'm not sure. I've lived here for 40 years, but don't know too much about the history of the place.

Why not? You take something as old as that, you save that in this day and age, that's pretty amazing.

It would be an absolute crime if they didn't try to save it. It's always been the most interesting building in the area to me since I came here in the 1960s.

I have for a long time admired the different types of architecture in Norway. This is one of my favorites. I've been taking pictures of it for years, and I'm glad they're saving it.

Because it's a part of Norway's history. Everyone says the woodwork is absolutely amazing. Let's save it and open it up to the public.

It might not look that good now, but I think it will in the end. When I was a child, I remember being at the Gingerbread House when it was owned by Mr. Cummings. He asked 'don't I want to go up into the tower?', and of course I did.

It seems cool. They don't build houses like that one any more. The grandparents of a friend of mine used to live in the house. There's a lot of history there.

For its historic value. Being such a big part of the town for so long makes it worth saving. People like to remember the way things were as things get worse.

Do you think this area needs more development?

Editor’s Note: We are opening up our Person on the Street column to all our readers – not just the ones we manage to corner "on the street." So, please, take a moment and think about our question of the week, then send us your answer along with a photograph of you. You can email it to: newsteam@advertiserdemocrat.com with a subject line: POS or you can come down to the office at 1 Pikes Hill in Norway and we will happily take your picture.
