Are Maine's envrionmental laws too stringent?

They're just plain stupid. Ther're ridiculous. Every time the DEP costs the DOT money, the DEP should pay for it.

I don't know how our laws are worded, but let's face it, we need business. Just look at all the empty shops on Main Street.

They're not too strict. They need to enforce them more. The DEP is understaffed, and they can't enforce the laws appropriately.

I think that there ought to be a happy medium. You need a clean environment and a good place for businesses.

I think maybe some of them are. But I agree that I want to keep the environment clean, too.

I've been to several of the red tape committee meetings. It's not the environmental regulations that are the problem. It's that the process needs to be made easier. The businesses agree that better coordination among agencies is what is needed. We need stringent environmental regulations in order to address things like climate change. We're helping the whole northeast.

Absolutely not. People come here from other states because of the pristine state of our environment. Everyone else has blown it, but we have a chance to get it right. We cannot squander it.

It depends on the situation. I'm not saying that we should cut down all our trees to put in a Walmart or anything, but we have to help the economy if we can. Everything in moderation.
