Stone-Smart holds November meeting

NORWAY — The November meeting of Stone-Smart American Legion Auxiliary Unit 82 was held with Joyce Clifford presiding.

Celebration of the Auxiliary’s 91st birthday was held with the men serving a roast pork supper, co-chaired by Ernest Clifford and Ralph Moulton with some help from their wives.

For business, the Unit voted on the following donations: Christmas for military children, Barbara Henley will work with the National Guard and other services that help families in the military and donations to Androscoggin Home Health, Ronald McDonald House and Long Creek Youth Center.

The Unit will also be remembering the Post veterans who are shut-ins at home or in a nursing home.

Beulah Ayer will be visiting Unit members who are shut in or in a nursing home and present them with a gift.

Ellen Snow reported that she has donated items to Mitzi Sequoia of Community Services and the National Guard Families Services.

Barbara Henley reported on her trip to the Guy E. Rowe School for Veterans Day. Dennis Bowden, a retired Marine, came in uniform and talked to the second graders. A video was shown about Veterans Day, and the teachers got involved with the kids in what was going on and what Veterans Day is all about.

The Unit voted to work with the Legion and National Guard on a lawn sale this summer at the Norway Armory.

Barbara Henley, Kathy Neary and Marcy Dullea volunteered for the Post’s Christmas on December 8.

Barbara Henley, education chairman, is working on scholarships for Oxford Hills students.

There are many scholarships that are not given out as no one applies for them. Juniors and seniors should check them out at the high school library or the Norway Library.
