SWOAM event November 20 at Angevine Tree Farm

BETHEL – A walk along new logging trails built with federal funds on the Ernest and Alberta Angevine Tree Farm will be the subject of a November 20 field day sponsored by the western Maine chapter of the Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine.

In addition to the walking tour that begins at 9 a.m., Peter Marcinuk of the National Resources Conservation Service will talk about programs available through the US Department of Agriculture such as the one that helped fund the Angevines’ trail project. Several are aimed at assisting woodland owners with their property improvements and conservation efforts.

Ernest and his wife have owned and managed their tree farm since 1946 and have been in the Tree Farm system since 1955.

From Bethel village, drive north about half a mile on Rt. 2/26 toward Rumford where the road crosses the Androscoggin River. Just after that bridge, take a left on North Road and go three miles past the Bethel Airport. SWOAM Signs will be posted the morning of the event.

Coffee and donuts will be available starting at 8:30 a.m. The event is free and open to anyone. There will be a number of door prizes given out including tools, apparel and gift certificates. For more information, call Rich Merk at 627-4102 or e-mail mqh@fairpoint.net.
