Fill a need, win a prize
OXFORD HILLS - The holidays can be a tough season for people, especially those with children - Resistance Ministries holds its auction Saturday, December 4, to help out.
Each year, the group holds two auctions to help families in need, many of whom are identified by members of the Ministry, the Box program and Youth Music Ministries, says the organizer, Barry Lowe, although anyone can nominate a family through the ministry. This year, the event will be held at the Oxford Recreation Department building. In years past it was held at the Hosanna Church, in Oxford.
Lowe says donated items, all of which are new merchandise or services from contributors, go on display at1 p.m. in the recreation hall. At 2 p.m. a party will be held for the recipient families and auction-goers who wish to participate. Last year, Lowe says there were 20 recipient families. He expects more this year. Each family will receive a food basket and each child will have a present.
This is a "Chinese" auction, meaning bidders purchase tickets - $25 for 200, in advance, and 100 for $20, at the door. Call Resistance Ministries at 743-6982 to make a donation or to buy advance tickets.
