FIRE AND SNOW — Fire claims a house on Callahan Road in Oxford as firefighters trudge through knee-deep snow attempting to save it.  The house burned down but no one was injured.

OXFORD — A house at 38 Callahan Road in Oxford succumbed to fire Sunday.

The fire departments of Oxford, Otisfield, Norway, Paris, Mechanic Falls and Poland responded to the call at 1:30 p.m. on February 6. By the time they arrived, the fire was fully involved and there was little the departments could do to save the building, said Oxford Fire Chief Scott Hunter.

There were no injuries, as the building was vacant at the time of the fire.  However, there was also nothing recovered.

According to Hunter, there does not appear to be any foul play. The fire seemed to have started in the attic and been caused by an issue with the building's wood stove.  As a precaution, however, the State Fire Marshal is currently investigating to clear up the exact reasons behind the blaze.
