NORWAY – After working in the retail business for over 20 years, Betty Lowe set her sights on a new path…a healthier lifestyle.
She found the New Hampshire Institute of Therapeutic Arts and graduated in 2007 and opened Betty Lowe Massage Therapy on Maine Street in Norway and specializes in various massages and hot stone treatments.
Lowe recently moved her business a few doors down to 274 Main Street where her business is now located on the ground floor.
Swedish massage is only one form of massage that Lowe offers.
“Swedish massage is a full-body technique that focuses on relaxation,” she explained. “It also helps in improving circulation, muscle and joint flexibility and self awareness.”
Neuromuscular massage is a deep-tissue massage using slow, specific strokes and pressure on specific muscles.
“This type of massage will help in relieving postural imbalances, reducing tension and fatigue, headaches, nerve dysfunctions, sciatica and rehabilitation from injury.”
Prenatal and Postnatal massage is a specialty of Lowe as well.
“With skill, modifying the massage techniques to adapt to changing, pregnant women; relieves stress on weight-bearing joints such as the lower back, hips pelvis and ankles. And increases relaxation, gives relief to varicose veins, encourages deeper breathing and the reduction of swelling to name a few.”
Once a mom, postnatal massage can be a benefit as well.
“Massage can promote structural realignment of the spine, hips and pelvis and the reorganization of movement. It promotes recovery from cesarean birth, and decreases the risk of postpartum depression and stress.”
According to Lowe, each massage session takes place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room filled with positive energy.
“After a massage most people feel extremely relaxed, free of tension and pain from injuries or repetitive stress,” Lowe smiled. “It also increases awareness of the mind and body and there is more energy, rejuvenation, and improved creative thinking.”
“The reward in my work can be no greater than that ... helping people achieve optimal health.”
Betty Lowe is a Licensed Massage Therapist and is nationally certified and a member of AMTA and is open on Monday through Friday from 9 to 6 at 274 Main Street in Norway.
