QUILT SHOP – Sharon Glover, owner of Babbling Brook Quilt Shop loves to quilt and help others as well. She recently opened up the quilt shop on the Marshall Pond Road in Hebron.

HEBRON – They say that behind every quilter, there is a huge pile of fabric. For proof, just take a short ride to the Babbling Brook Quilt Shop on the Marshall Pond Road in Hebron.

The quaint quilt shop is owned by Sharon Glover, who has sewn since the age of 13.

“I started sewing in school,” she said. “From then on I caught the sewing bug and made most of my school clothes. In high school I took home economics, my favorite subject. I made two dresses for a fashion show, one of them being my wedding gown.”

Years later, the seamstress learned to quilt.

“I took quilting lessons and have quilted ever since,” said Glover. “I am still learning! And I liked quilting so much that I thought that having a shop would be something I would like to do. My husband, Frank is very supportive and gave up his garage so that I could open the shop.”

Babbling Brook Quilt Shop offers quality fabrics at competitive prices along with a soon-to-be full-line of Creative Grids Rulers.

“We definitely stock some great quality fabrics,” said the owner. “Our goal is to offer fabric that serious sewers and quilters can appreciate. Many of us spend time just touching and feeling fabric, silly as it may sound, but quilters understand the need to work with something long lasting with a great feel.”

Some of the fabrics Glover carries are Batiks, Benartex, Red Rooster, Maywood Studio, Henry Glass, Moda and others.

Babbling Brook also stocks notions ranging from the basic sewing necessities to rotary blades, grommets, quilting stencils, purse clasps on up to the bigger items such as Best Press, Velcro and Grommets. And the list is growing weekly.

“We also stock the full line of Mettler Threads and slowly working on bringing in the Bottom Line and King Tut as well,” she said. “We also offer other popular items such OESD Stabilizers and 505 spray for some of our local embroiderers.”

“We carry 108-inch backing and Warm and Natural batting,” she added. “Pre-cuts and kits are also available.”

New classes are offered every month on purses, totes, table runners, wall hangings and the occasional large quilt.

“Our classes range from beginner quilting to advanced. We offer classes on different techniques such as machine appliqué, free motion quilting and paper piecing.”

During the summer months Babbling Brook will offer mini quilt retreats and kids sewing/quilting classes.

“I think it would be great to get kids involved in making homemade gifts and garments. Help get their creativity going.”

The quilt shop will offer sales throughout the year and offers a 10 percent discount on items purchased during class time.

“We can definitely let our customers know of upcoming sales, classes and new arrivals in our monthly newsletter we send out via e-mail or regular mail. If anyone is interested they can contact the shop and have their name added to the list.”

Amanda Trundy, Glover’s employee also offers longarm quilting.

“She does a beautiful job!” said the owner. “Most items are done free hand.”

According to Glover, cabin fever season is a great time to quilt because a stitch a day helps keep the blues away.

Glover feeds her soul with every stitch she sews.

“When I'm quilting I find that it is very relaxing,” smiled the quilter. “And ‘sew’ rewarding to see the finished product.”

Babbling Brook is open Wednesday through Sunday; 10 to 5 and is located at 92 Marshall Pond Road.
