Kanine Kare opens daycare and boarding services
SOUTH PARIS – There is a new business in town and the customers and yelping with joy.
Owner, Cynthia Gurschick recently opened Kanine Kare, which provides daycare and boarding for dogs of all shapes and sizes. The owner has loved animals all her life.
“I grew up on a farm and have always been an animal lover,” smiled Gurschick. “I used to bring all kinds of strays home, once I even rescued six baby skunks! At one point I also had a couple of raccoons. Dogs are the closest to my heart though; once you give a dog your love they give it back unconditionally!”
Opening a daycare and allowing dogs to run free was a must for Gurschick.
“We are actually kennel free, which means we are cage free!” she explained. “No one wants their dogs left in a cage. We do have half walls that section our building off, so that we are able to separate dogs according to temperament, energy level and size. This gives the animals a safer environment while still giving them socialization and more space for exercise and play.”
Outdoor play is available as well.
“Our outdoor play yard is fenced in and has several pieces of equipment such as a sandbox, slide, tunnel, tire etc. This offers a variety of activities to prevent boredom. We also have a couple of larger toys inside that the dogs can climb on in the large pens ensuring a lot of exercise and play time.”
The daycare service is a favorite among customers.
“Our clients want their dogs to have company throughout the day,” Gurschick smiled. “Dogs that come for daycare have a lot of socialization and play time! It is also a great service as the months get colder and pets should not be left outside all day.”
Boarding is also offered.
“Boarding is a service we offer for dogs that need overnight accommodations. Whether it’s for one night or many, clients can feel comfortable that their fur baby is well taken care of and getting lots of exercise and playtime.”
Dogs can also visit for grooming, nail trims and ear cleaning.
“We provide baths, that either staff or the owner can give their pet and we also give blow outs and brush outs for shedding dogs.”
Gurschick also provides a wide array of training.
“We give puppy training; obedience for the beginner; intermediate or advanced dog and owner training, with an agility obstacle course; rally, for the very advanced; and trick classes. In addition we offer private hires, which is one-on-one training that targets a specific problem, for example aggression or socialization issues. And of course, we have to offer our furry friends AKC Good Citizenship and Star Puppy certification!”
Kanine Kare also sells anti-flea and tick products from Frontline and Home Again Micro-chipping.
“It’s the best gift you can give your dog, said the owner. “If a dog ends up getting lost a micro-chipped animal has greatly increased odds of getting returned home.”
In the future, Kanine Kare will be adding themed rooms for the dogs.
“Some of the themes will be hunting dogs, pretty in pink and royalty. The purpose of adding themed areas is to allow our guests to have a more pampering experience. We are currently in the process of building a retail area where we will sell food, collars, leashes, treats and toys.”
Dog safety is most important to the owner.
“All dogs must be fully vaccinated including the bordetella vaccine, which we can provide here. This not only protects the vaccinated dog, but the other dogs that come here too. We also require dogs to be flea and tick free. We have a policy in place that infected dogs will be treated.”
According to Gurschick, the community has been very supportive and she loves her new job.
“I am an animal lover, but dogs are my passion,” she smiled. “There is no greater gift than waking up every morning knowing I get to go to work and do what I love!”
“Ultimately if your dog is happy then so I am.”
Kanine Kare is located at the Cornwall Plaza on Main Street. For more information, call 739-2350.
