Calling all men for 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest'
NAPLES - If you’ve ever wanted to try acting, or already consider yourself an actor, Lake Region Community Theatre needs you. Auditions will be held for Dale Wasserman’s play, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest,” on Monday, November 22, and Tuesday, November 23, from 6 – 8 p.m., and male actors over age 18 are particularly encouraged to audition. The director requests that actors attend the Monday casting call, if possible, and plan on remaining the entire two hours. Auditions will take place at Lake Region High School in Naples.
The play, a comedic drama, is based on Ken Kesey’s best-selling 1963 novel and explores themes of individuality and rebellion against conformity. It won a Tony Award in 2001 for Best Broadway Revival. The charismatic lead character, Randle McMurphy, cooks up a scheme to serve a short sentence in a mental hospital rather than in prison, but soon learns his mistake. He stirs up a ward of male patients and encourages the men to rebel against the power-wielding head nurse. The result is a play filled with humor, drama and tension.
The play contains mature content and strong language. There are roles for females aged 18 and above, as well. Actors and actresses should prepare one dramatic monologue no longer than two minutes. There will be additional cold readings of the play during auditions. For more information about specific character needs, check out www.lrctme.org.
The director of the show, which will run January 27-30, 2011, is Rob Juergens. The producers are Lew Krainin and Janet Ver Planck. “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
