BHS to present art show

BETHEL — On Saturday, May 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Bethel Historical Society will host its annual “Faye Taylor Memorial Art Show,” which features the work of students in grades one through six in S.A.D. #44.

This year’s student art will be exhibited in the Molly Ockett Room of the Society’s Robinson House, located at 10 Broad Street next door to the Bethel Library. The 2012 Art Show theme is “The Woods and Lakes Around Us,” a subject that will be further explored in the Society’s upcoming exhibit, “They Took to the Woods,” about the history of outdoor recreation in western Maine.

Art Show guidelines have been made available to all SAD #44 students in grades one through six, and artwork should be delivered to the Society’s Robinson House by 3 p.m. on Friday, May 25, in order to be considered for a prize.

On Saturday morning, several judges will look at all entries to determine how they relate to this year's theme and to choose the winners. Ribbons, certificates and cash prizes ($50 first prize, $35 second prize, and $20 third prize) will be awarded to the winners in three divisions: grades one and two, grades three and four and grades five and six. Donald and Kathy Bennett of Bethel again are supporting the awarding of cash prizes.

Questions about the contest should be directed to the Society at 824-2908 or info@bethelhistorical.org.
