Community Band concert slated

BETHEL — The Mahoosuc Community Band is excited to perform its spring concert Sunday, May 6 at 4 p.m. at the West Parish Congregational Church in Bethel.

The band, directed by Patricia Boyle-Wight, is preparing for the summer, music at Waterford’s music celebration July 29, and end of the summer concert Monday, August 13 at 7 p.m. at Gould Academy's Bingham Hall in Bethel. The community band has been organized for 15 years and continues to provide music for the communities.

Some highlights this year include a trumpet solo by Julie Schubert-Cowan with "The Yellow Rose of Texas." Other numbers include "All Board (This Train is Bound for Glory)," "Trisch-Tratsch Polka," "An American Spectacular," "Tocatta for Band" and "Chicago."

The band wants to thank the community businesses for supporting its annual ad campaign for its programs. It thanks Suzanne Dunham for securing those donations to keep the band performing music in the community and the individuals that have made donations. These financial donations help with music and equipment purchases.

The band rehearses on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the West Parish Congregational Church. New members are always welcome. How long has it been since you picked up that clarinet or that trumpet? In only takes a little time to blow that dust off, get your lip in shape and remember the fingering. Maybe you need to buy a new reed or gets those valves oiled. Music is something to enjoy throughout your lifetime. Young people from area middle schools or high schools are welcome to join the band for the summer or the fall.
