Night of bluegrass music to celebrate David Lee
BRIDGTON — No matter how frigid the winter, there’s always one hot January night in Bridgton, thanks to David A. Lee. That’s why the seventh Annual Deep Freeze Bluegrass Music Festival will be celebrated in his memory on Saturday, January 29, at 7 p.m. at the Old Hall on Route 302. Bring an instrument for the open jam.
The event is just one of the many ways that Lee, who died October 28, contributed to his community. He also served on the Bridgton Planning Board and was a volunteer firefighter for the South Bridgton Fire Department for 50-plus years. He first got involved with LEA a decade ago, when he sold a parcel of land that became part of the Holt Pond Preserve.
In 2004, he came to Lowell with the idea of a January event to benefit LEA and lake protection, saying “I can usually find some bands that will donate some time in the winter, when in the summer they're all booked up.”
Some of Maine’s best will be picking and singing at this year’s bluegrass festival, including: The Hemingway Brothers of Harrison, Squash and Gourds and Jewell Clark and Donnie Katlin.
Tickets are available at the LEA office, 230 Main Street, Bridgton, or at Bridgton Books, Running With Scissors, and at the door. Admission is $15 for adults, $25 for couples and $30 for families.
For more information contact LEA at 647-8580 or lakes@leamaine.org.
