Players announce auditions for 'Guys and Dolls'

POLAND — The Poland Players will host auditions for the popular musical "Guys and Dolls" January 11-12 from 4-7 p.m. in the Dr. Robert Wall Theatre located at Poland Regional High School, 1457 Main St. in Poland. Performance dates are March 16-19. The show requires a large cast and members of the community are encouraged to audition. Individuals should be prepared to sing a short song and/or read from the script. The production is also looking for dancers, musicians and technical assistance.

"Guys and Dolls," a well-known Broadway musical, is set in the New York of the early 1950s, a world comprised of gamblers, night-club performers, promoters and Salvation Army members trying to cure the sins of the Times Square population. The plot centers around a bet made between gambler, Sky Masterson, and Nathan Detroit, the organizer of a floating crap-game. Sky bets Nathan that he can woo any "doll" Nathan selects and take her to a romantic get-away. Nathan chooses straight-laced Sarah Brown of the Salvation Army. The status of the bet, the crap-game and the end of the 14-year engagement of Nathan and his girl, Adelaide, results in confusion amidst great song and dance, featuring such well-known numbers as "Sit Down You're Rocking The Boat" and "Luck Be A Lady Tonight."

For more information or to schedule a different audition time, please contact the director, D'Arcy Robinson at 998-5400 ext. 218 or via e-mail at drobinson@rsu16.org.
